Silence, but for the soft crackle of dry wood in the stove
and the gentle creak of the aged rocker where he sits
gazing upon the splendour of the forest in wintertime...
eyes not really focusing on anything he sees everything
He has come here to reconnect with all that really matters
and as the serenity slowly strips away life's layers
his heartbeat slows down and his mind begins to unwind...
he is part of all that nature has graciously laid before him
His troubles linger outside the door with his snow covered boots
as the quiet little cabin tucked into the birch and pine
with its welcoming wooden walls and sturdy beams
envelops him in a comforting hug he welcomes with open arms
There's a faint hint of wood smoke in the cosy room
and he inhales deeply, exhaling a blissful sigh
as the cleansing begins and his spirit rejoices...
here in this place, in this moment... he is home
always enjoy reading your work
Love & Peace be with you

Really liked:
"and as the serenity slowly strips away life's layers..."
What an idyllic scene and peaceful thoughts conveyed in your poem. Makes me want to be there.

I so miss the little cottage in Maine, but my weeks for this year are already booked and it is just a matter of time until I am in that pine forest listening to the Barred Owls argue, the coyotes howl, the red squirrels chatter, the beavers splash...
OK maybe a little impatient. This was a taste that made me hunger.
