When Captain James Cook sailed into what is now known as Australia,
he recorded that the land was
unoccupied and he listed all the Aboriginal people as 'fauna.'
This fact breaks my heart.
BEFORE 'AUSTRALIA, '
upon THIS land,there was a man, Aboriginal man.
Before the tall ships came,
he walked this land,
before the word 'Australian' ever began,
upon this land,stood... Aboriginal man.
Before the white men took his land,
those ancient tribesman trod its sand,
with boomerang held in hand,
there stood so grand...
Aboriginal man.

Signs of Kath Walker here Kay. It is still their country, we only have it on loan. Their time will come again.

I have long been fascinated with the aboriginal peoples there, Kay. What dignity and grace your piece is written with... it's so similar to the human history of N. America, with our Native Americans, another proud and beautiful race of people.
It should never be forgotten that without the help and history of these tribes, we who came after would not have progressed as we have, and I'm not always sure our own progress is something to be as proud of. This is a wonderful poem... a dedication with real honor and caring in every word. Thanks.. katy xox.

Kay, this is an exceptional well-penned write, it never ceases to amaze and sadden me when I read about how one nation or its people have instilled its own beliefs upon another. As part Native Cherokee Indian, I have searched effortlessly through the archives of my sacred ancestors in the hopes of one day being reuniting with the many proud peoples of my original tribe. Unfortunately, I think as we became more modernized way too many of the timeless traditions and customs of the old, which have been forgotten, has greatly influenced the world into the sad state it has become as it is today. A meaningful outstanding well-crafted composition, Poet. Thank you for sharing your remarkable gift. Take care.
Yes it always seems to be the British flag flying in new countries around the world, explorers they were, but brought with them plague and pestilence, was it worth it, we won't really ever know, I don't think...an excellent tribute to the native people of Australia and for that matter to any native people of any land...WELL DONE, Kay...Peace, Ed & Rufuz

It is good to know of those who walked before the modern day...they often have/had profound knowledge and left their mark. Perhaps one day civilization will stop the need to overrun and conqur indigenous peoples.
