God is the salvation for us all................

Our gun laws in the U.S. are antiquated and there needs to be tighter control and accessibility to weapons and the kind of weapons that are available to the public...but I am afraid that genie is out of the bottle and there are so many guns out there that can be had, stolen or bought on the black market to satisfy the criminal element. The gun lobby and the NRA are way too strong and this lobby as well as most lobbies should be banned from having access to our legislators or from putting their own interests ahead of the rights of victims of gun violence. It is too easy to kill when a gun is available and it is too easy to fall into the hands of the insane, mentally unstable or criminal bent on inflicting harm on others. There is never a valid reason to own weapons designed to kill more people within a short span of time. The statistics indicate that more deaths are due to attack with guns rather than saved in defense, so that argument is unsupported.
I am afraid it may be too late to save ourselves by making new laws on gun control as the criminal element will always be with us to obey any laws in regards to the use of guns or possession of them. There is no easy answer.

Guns are ingrained in the American psyche. Unfortunately, many fear that they will need guns to protect their property, their lives, and to overthrow the government if it becomes abusive. Like religion, the primary purpose for people having guns is fear.

When you look at the other side of the coin. The number of people that commit suicide, murder, and other crimes, simply because a gun is available, and most tragic of all, when young people get a hold of the family gun and accidentally shoot or maim themselves or others. It seems insane that we would allow this to happen. The daily count of death like this is staggering, similar to death on the highways.

The only reason for handgun is to kill a human being. It has no use for hunting because it is too inaccurate. You only reason for automatic, multi-round, guns is to kill more efficiently––humans. These guns were developed for war and to penetrate armor. When I see men at target sites shooting these weapons it makes me wonder what they are thinking.

The tragic multiple killings that we are seeing are almost always a deranged person. We often ignore them, for bully them, in till they reach a breaking point. We need to do much more by way of mental health, especially since we have so many militarily trained young men and women coming back from war with disorders caused by the horror they've seen.

Let us hope that in the future, we can overcome our fear, become more peaceful, and the guns behind is an artifact of earlier centuries when they were needed for protection and to hunt for food.

I think that clearly the laws regarding the purchase of guns and who has them, indeed, must be more stringent. I know that the horrific results following the actions of that young man, who had mental problems, stands out like a sore thumb with regards to a gun getting into the wrong hands. However, I am considering two other episodes which also happened here in the US just recently that maybe you are not familiar with. In both cases these occurrences involved a mother and children. In one case an intruder came into the home of a young widow and her infant son and not content with robbing her house...found and advanced towards her and her son that were hiding and cowering in a corner. She shot him. In the second instance that happened right here in Georgia, where I live, an intruder broke into a house with intent to hurt a mother and her children...she shot him. So then we come down to the bottom line. Do we make all gun ownership unlawful, or just some of them? Kay...we are living in the end times and this is a very dangerous and un-nerving time for all of us. But before I go on, let me make something clear; I do not own a gun, never have owned a gun and never will own one. However, the only reason I don't is because of my faith in God. He is my protection, He is my 'gun'. Anything that happens in my life that He doesn't prevent...is suppose to happen, for my life is in His hands. But as I was saying, these are frightful times that we are living in and many feel that the only protection for them and their families is a gun...for them its something that is 'tangible'. This is because they are not walking by faith, but by sight. So what do we do? Condemn those that are not where we are? Do we refuse to let law abiding, level headed individuals have a well concealed, registered gun in their homes for protection? And what about those sportsmen who hunt during hunting season? Whether we approve of the sport or not...some people tote registered rifles and enjoy this sport. And I don't even want to begin to touch on the amount of firearms that are in our country which got here illegally and cannot be registered. So, Personally I don't feel there is a right or wrong side. I feel both sides have good arguements and I certainly do not feel that we need to begin 'messing around' with our Constitution. Because it would be like opening up a can of worms! Change upon change wouls be made on other parts of this Document, on which the very roots of our Democracy Stands, until we are left with absolutely...nothing! We must not tamper with our Roots! Thus, this is my answer; Until people get more faith in Almight God and see Him as their one and only protection... 'GUN LAWS' IN THE US NEED TO BE IMPROVED AND NEED TO BE STRICKLY ADHERED TO...WITH THE LACK OF ADHERANCE BEING FOLLOWED UP WITH SEVERE AND PUNISHABLE CONSEQUENCES.

I so feel this way too, why a gun? Why does anyone have to own a gun? Why!? I want peace in the world, no more guns.

Kay, you are right...sometimes these things make no sense, but you did write something that is a possible answer to this horrible mess, and that is to amend the constitution, and I would be in favor of doing something like that to keep guns out of the hands of those that want to wreak havoc on our children. It would be a mammoth undertaking, but I feel it's necessary.
