As I see the world around me, the sunshine isn't as bright; nor is the hope that sustains us...how sad is this plight! What has happened to us as a Human Race?

NO ONE REMEMBERS WHO I AM…

By:  Linda Law

One who has lived a lifetime loving

Riding the ups and downs and curves

Youth and laughs, pains of growing

Many friends who have come and gone

Some through life’s turns, others in passing

Loss of contact, different directions traveled

Secret loves, and others for eternity

Children, with all the heartache as well as joy

One life that so many came to depend on

Forgotten as the years roll by

Imagine the numbers as they move along

No longer able to hold a job, or earn a way

The one who sheltered, fed and supplied needs

Forgotten as the years roll by

What happened to integrity and humility

When it comes to those who loved us

The streets are full of the lonely, many cold

Hungry, for food, for basic needs…for love

One who has lived a lifetime loving

No longer remembered, No longer important

Passing through the seasons, alone and empty

Sickness is a fear, as money is non existent

Hiding, pretending with smiles on their face

Pride is ingrained, from another generation

Where family, home, loyalty and conscience

Came with being born…came with being human

The days are running rampant, as their lives are not

Asking little, surviving with less than hope

We see them daily, hear the hope filled stories

Yet where are they for those other millions

The ones who are forgotten… by friends, by family

No longer remembered, No longer important

Life can fit a thimble when it comes to just one

There is no special holiday, there is no special any day

Counting is all that is left…and waiting for the time

When the heavens open up and angels escort the path

From the loneliness and black hole that life on earth

Has become.  No phone rings, no card arrives,

No soft or loving words will ever reach this soul

Who loved and gave and now is so forgotten

One wonders how many will arrive or send a flower

When it no longer matters.. Where were you when?

Oh bless that day O’ Father, when they see your face

I pray sweet King, that the pain you will erase

Amen, Linda. This is a good one to return to periodically. Of course we all experience this somewhat in our own lives continually, but I also have to add a particularly touching thing that has been happening to me as a writer. I've actually had residents of assisted living facilities hug me, or want to hold my hand if they are too disabled otherwise, and thank me for my short stories which they have said they find so uplifting. Now I realize this sounds like blowing my own horn, but I feel it goes far beyond that. These people are lonely, and, in some cases, only cared for physically too much of the time. I hate to use the cliche that I share their hope and their pain, but I do, and one only has to look at your beautiful write to know you do too...Jerry

There is a loneliness to that feeling when one is leftto wonder of a life...of a world...where compassion is gone and nothing is left but to realize there is a better place...and let us pray and hope we all arrive upon that destination...called home...

And when we arrive He will be there ....waiting for us to join Him in His Heavenly Kingdom....

nice work Linda...

Sensitive and empathetic and conscience-awakening. You are so right. There are so many people who might as well be invisible.
Being shunned is the worst imaginable punishment, and many people have lived their whole lives being shunned. Others can remember a time when they were treated with love and respect. It must hurt so bad to know they have fallen off the radar. Of all times, the holiday season should be one when we l o o k and l i s t e n and
s h o w that we c a r e. Thank you for this very effective reminder!!
Peace and Love for all, for all time, Phyllis

I live here in this apt place and there are people like you put here and have noone who cares no more. It is sad, they are not happy an are lost and I don't even think they have the Lord in their hearts even. Prayers are needed for so many out there you describe but the Good Lord loves each and every one and will see to their needs.

This poem is full of sorrow and cold facts...often we don't want to look those realities in the face because we fear them. Thanks for another reminder of the realities of life.

This is a very close look at life today. Much has
been covered in this write, the diminishing of
values such as humility, and integrity. You said
it all Linda. Thank you for sharing this powerful
poem!!!

Excellent poem Linda. Parts of it can apply to any of us struggling to survive and trying to make sense of this mess of a world we've created. I'd love to have you as a member of my website. You won't get as many reviews as you do here but you'll get some and I think you'll find the site a very warm and friendly second home. There's a link to it on my pages as well as on the pages of some of your fellow AD members who are also members of The Writing Forum. I look forward to hearing from you.

Powerful write Linda
At times I feel I am in that dark corridor
lost forgotten by family and friend
nowhere to go to but forward
Hoping at the end
The Good Lord will understand
Love & peace be with you
Merry Christmas

Linda,

One who has actually been there can only perceive the misery you describe. How easy it is to forget that we are all human beings. Your poem really touched my heart. Peace, Love, Blessings & Friendship Always, Paul.

This is so very sad, Linda. Finally, the last 2 lines promise comfort and peace.
There are people in each one's life that would be grateful for some attention. Who is it in my life? It doesn't take a whole lot of time to reach out a little and care about a lonely person.

I felt this one as well, and it is also the reason I do not believe in the standard funerals with wakes that most people have. When I go I do not want a bunch of people who haven't even seen me in twenty years let alone spoken to me hanging around my dead body bullshitting about how much I'll be missed. Cremate me and the ones that really knew me to the end can have a drink over my memory.

My love of reading came from my elders...and anybody else's who would tell me a story. I am not around many elderly now...so I have to read as there are few to tell me stories now that I have grown. At work, I do come across a few elders and they tell me short stories of their life. I guess if a person is not contributing to the world...there contributions of their youth is forgotten. Linda you are always thinking and caring of others. You will be remembered by many as the wonderful author, poet, speak your mind woman...and many other things. Anyway, thanks once again for bringing to light the needed friendship to the elderly...and any alone person.
