Mentally Deficient

Is there a mental deficiency

within my brain?

I know I should feel absolute pain

in the suffering of others,

that I should feel absolute pain

in the pain of others.

And yes,

I do!

However,

the horrors that assail us daily,

that deluge our senses

with untold pain

with untold cruelty

with lack of reason.

Awakening, what will today bring?

Awakening,

first conscious thought may well be:

What is the horror this day will bring?

A bomb blowing a government building

to smithereens killing hundreds?

Planes flying into buildings

killing thousands?

A hurricane blowing the ocean into a city

killing and displacing hundreds of thousands?

A tsunami washing cities away

killing and displacing hundreds of thousands?

An earthquake destroying a country

killing and displacing hundreds of thousands?

A coal mine collapsing

trapping and smothering dozens?

A mother drowning her children?

A father killing his children?

A rampaging lunatic killing all within sight?

A fetus torn from the ripped stomach

of an expectant mother?

What is the horror of this day?

What is the daily horror this day will bring,

...that tomorrow will bring?

I know I should feel absolute pain

in the suffering of others,

that I should feel absolute pain

in the pain of others,

and I do...

yet...

In a strange way I feel detached.

In a strange way I feel my mind

overloaded with the new horror

that assails me daily,

that deluge my senses

that,

in a strange way

leaves me feeling detached

and not as sympatric

as I know I should feel

leaving me to ask,

am I mentally deficient?

Is there a mental deficiency

within my brain?

No deficiency. The fact that you acknowledge the daily onslaught as sensationalized by the media idiots demonstrates cognition. The way you have portrayed your acknowledgment demonstrates the sinking feeling that something is frightfully wrong, beyond your control, and in such numbers that scale might actually be questioned. Alas it's real. Patrick

When reading today's news papers one wouldn't think that Auschwitz was sixty five years ago, one would thing that man came to his senses.
Then again...

No there is nothing wrong with your brain Markie. I do believe that mankind has pushed things a little too far, selfishness, greed and fear has moved into the souls of far too many and they will do anything to take over and it will never happen as God is above all.

Only God can change the world, nobody else can. We can learn of another's suffering, but we can't possibly feel their pains for it's only those who are in it can really feel it.

Prayers will help those with absolute faith in God! There SHOULD NOT BE ANY DOUBTS when you pray for help.

We are getting immune to the daily shock and awe of the news -- I, too, am struggling to make sense in a world gone awry. :( Well penned, Mark.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

No only those you read about and it doesn't change much from day to day.

Do What Matters Most by William Cottringer

This book summarizes life's ten toughest tests with ten passwords each to pass these tests. The current overload, speed of change and chaos are all summarized well enough to get to the Land of Simple on the other side quicker than usual.
