These words are not directed to those with inbred or genetic disabilities, but to those who use genetics, or any excuse for their destructive behavior.
Choices, we all have choices! Choices to make that are of our choosing. Fact? Excuse? Genetics, They blame genetics! Fact? Excuse? A gene: “A complex chemical unit of a chromosome that carries one’s heredity.” Fact? Excuse? An alcoholic gene: A gene that predicts… Predicts: “To declare in advance?” An alcoholic gene: A gene one is born with that will declare in advance if one is to be alcoholic? Fact? Excuse? A fat gene: A gene that predicts if one is to be overweight. A gene that predicts If one is to be obese? Fact? Excuse? A criminal gene: A gene that predicts if one is to be a thief: a shoplifter, a pickpocket, a burglar. A gene that predicts if one is to be criminal? Fact? Excuse? A homicidal gene: A gene that predicts if one is to kill, if one is to murder. A gene that predicts if one is born a unfeeling beast? Fact? Excuse? It’s my mother’s fault I’m alcoholic… I’m fat… I’m a criminal… I’m a homicidal manic… I’m an unfeeling beast… It’s my father’s fault I’m alcoholic… I’m fat… I’m a criminal… I’m a homicidal manic… I’m an unfeeling beast… It’s my parent’s fault! It’s genetics! It’s my genes fault! It’s because I eat Twinkies! It’s because I drink too much coffee! Choices, we all have choices! Choices to make that are of our choosing. To be good? To be bad? To love? To hate? To be sober? To be alcoholic? To be fat? To be slim? To be honest? To be criminal? Okay, yeah! Occasionally, In rare circumstances, genetics may well be in play. But generally speaking, For most of us, genetics be damned! Excuses be damned! We all have choices!

I agree 100% Mark! Ultimately it all comes down to choice! WEll said! Happy New Year, my friend! Read "The Climbing Boy" over the weekend.....one of the most enchanting reads I've ever had....my family and friends are lining up to read it! Creative magic!!!! It's amazing how we royaly treat some with genetic defects, while others of the sinful kind we often neglect. Happy New Year Mark!

These questions keep plaguing us. The only one I knew about was alcohol and obesity, but no we do make our own choices. Since I don't drink at all, but alcoholism runs in my family, am I an alcoholic? you've brought up some excellent points. Peace and love.
