I awake to the high-pitched
wail of the curler-headed
splat-u-la -welding mom.
She wants my butt outta bed
FINE.
I allow it to protrude
from the covers
hanging over the edge.
You'd think such strict
obedience would earn me
a small respite.
AM I UP YET?
what kind of question is that?
Do you want me to live down
to your expectations?
Honestly, I'm nearly self aware--
that's gotta count for something.
DO I HAVE TO COME UP THERE?
Multiple choice:
a. Everyone needs a little exercise.
b. Hey, call psychic friends,
how am I supposed to know
c. Eventually, you'll have to
for one reason or another
d. So is breakfast is ready or what!
Do you think I can smell
burnt toast way up here?
I'm moving...I scream....
Out side of time...dressing as I hop
down the stairs...sniffing for meat-like
by-products----Mom, I love you!

LOL . you. ;) I rememeber once when my son 'sneaked out' and came strolling in at 6 AM. HELLO! He showered, got dressed and promptly fell asleep on the sofa while I got ready for work. I made him WAKE UP (yes, I yelled, hee hee) and go to school exhausted.
He didn't pull that one again, at least not that I am aware of. He's 24 now, where did the time go? (God, am I really 43) Thank you for your comments on my poetry and you are right, the 'World' didn't cry. Thanks again Lee.
Lee, ~smiles~ shaking head..

Let this coming of age story of a boy named Bean take you back to a simple time. Set in a small southern town in the 1960's, encircled by a river and gleaming white cotton fields.
