This poem is from my new book entitled Manifestations.

 Sometimes We Shift

Sometimes we shift

we adjust in our seats a little

even when we are reasonably comfortable

we sometimes involuntarily settle ourselves in a different way

in a different direction

and we do it so easily and without pause

like most people I am surrendered to change

but hesitant and slightly uncomfortable with its course

so I ponder on a chair

a big comfy one that I can completely curl up in

I envision a blanket

not too thick but just enough to keep me warm from the breeze

I imagine myself sitting comfortably

so much so that I catch myself dreaming

when a gnarly snore wakes me up

and then it happens

in an almost subconscious way

I adjust from my place of comfort

and shift my body and my blanket

and rest my head and my hips and my feet in a different direction

without a gauge or assessment of the new direction

and the comfort ability therein

I shift and like many circumstances in life

without warning or notice

change happens

and forces us to surrender to it

and whatever is on the other side

whatever lies there that may make us comfortable or incommodious

when the shift happens

it not only translocates our physical disposition

all cozy on the comfy armchair that life has given us

but it also shifts inside of us in places that relish on foundation

and forces us to trust the unseen

and release control to the forces that align our souls to our purpose

I have found that in comfort and in disdain

shifts are necessary to catapult us to the places

that we can only be carried to by fate

I’ve shifted
