I Cried

by D.E.Z. Butler — Read all 31 poems by D.E.Z. Butler

A cat gives comfort to someone crying.

Sunday, February 16, 2014

I Cried

I wept and did not know why
the tears were there and coming
down, just coming down and
I cried.

I cried about him and her and him
and her, all gone and never to come
back again, just all gone, and yet the
tears were there, just coming down
my face, I wept and wiped the new tears
I cried.

There was nothing to cry about, not
a thing had happened, just tears and
I cried, yes, I cried. I thought of him, I
thought of her, all those friends and
relatives that have left, and I cried.
My heart could not stop.
I cried.

There were no words, no thoughts, just
names floating in my head, names I knew
now gone, names of those I felt it hard to
cry for, before, and then like a slow stream I cried.
Yes, I cried.

Never had I cried for them, never before
were tears there for them, now gone, oh so gone,
all gone. The years were there and now the tears
are there, and now I have cried. Yes, over and over
again I cried just lying on my bed with pillow folded close
I cried.

The cat, I feel the cat close to me. His paws so small
and warm, he is as close as he has ever been to me. His
tiny paw is now on my face. Just one paw patting down my
tears, a paw to say he knows I cry and why I cry. No words
are there just a paw to say he knows, and then I cry more, much
more than before, I now cry to let him know I love him so, yes I love my
friend, my cat, so much, for knowing that I cry for those people all
gone, all broken when they left; and then I can’t keep the
emotion inside any longer,
so I have finally cried, yes, I have finally
cried for those, all,
whom are gone, the years have past and I feel the pain,
I have now cried.

I stop to think, to question will I cry more and my cat there to
comfort me, as I have a tear for every person now gone and now
need a pat from the cat to stop the flow of tears. The love between
animal and friend and another one that I will one day have to say,
I cried, yes I cried for my dear cat, but now I love him so, his love
for me so shown.

I hope not to have to cry again. For today I have cried for those long
gone and those that will someday be gone. But not him, let him stay always
near and dear to me, his knowing, all knowing is beyond human love, and so
I have cried.
Today I cried.

Finally!

Your poem expressed a sad moment that is felt by you. Sometimes we would let our emotions lead us, and we would cry for everything that needs crying about, and even those that aren't even worth our tears we cry about them too. It's a good therapy to rid of any sadness within us. Animals can feel our sadness. Whenever I feel sad, or being sick my cat would always clings close to me to give me comfort. Our pets know us and know when to protect us.

A truly unique offering. Since cats lives are very short, chances are that very few cats will outlive their owners. In my cousin's case, her twin sister died, so she continued to care for both her two poodles and those of her sister who had asked for and got two poodles as well. When my cousin died, four poodles bravely protected her body on the bed. They comforted her until the very end.

Unfortunately, we all are here on a temporary basis. Your cat though will see you through more days. Beautiful and poignant write. Liz

D.E.Z.,

A powerful poem that made me cry. I lost my precious little dog 3 months tomorrow. He used to comfort me too, just as your sweet cat did. Oh how I miss my baby. I had him 11 years. Give your cat an extra hug today. You still have him. God bless.

Love and blessings,
Linda+
