That Ole Man Cat

My cat has died.

Poem Artwork

 That Ole Man Cat

My ole man cat looked so sad
his body was broken and sore
and fear was in his glassy eyes
fear of dying

I picked him up and loved him
one last time, just one more time
his hair was stiff and gave me clue
of what was to come my fear for him the
fear of dying

It was his time, oh yes his time had come
but my heart was breaking and I kept
thinking of the song, that song from
Showboat, that Ole Man River song the
one that relates to him and his fate
fear of dying

He had rolled along as much as he could
his head was in the water getting all he
could drink, his body so weak you could smell
the death round him, just death no chance,
no chance to survive and just the constant
fear of dying

His eyes looked at me and he cried one last time
just one more time to let me know he had the fear,
I cradled him close and then the shot and now he
had no fear, no fear anymore, no fear more
the fear of dying he had was now over, he was
gone and no more worry over the
fear of dying
