A dedication to the modern element charting our existence we sometimes take for granted seemed appropriate this morning as I read through some works of ancient poets and philosophers. Their labor on papyrus, processed leather, ceramic and marble prevailed long before the convenience of modern inks came into being.

Ink's Muse

 

The denseness of knowledge and imagination
is matched only by the opacity of tool
atrophied at the bottom of its glass imprisonment
this allusive weapon of the quiet
finds awakening at quill-tip's point

Even as words serve but the surface
of her life's essence
fluid resonance of language
remains eternally ready for liberation

Absolutely. Writing was work in those day, and I mean dedicated work to record for prosperity what their minds desired. But mankind (I just can't say humankind) is first and foremost a species that wants to communicate, and will surmount whatever obstacle in their way to do so.
