Umbilical Longings

rest upon ever-changing terrain
fissures of the interminable
warm fluid fiords carving
paths through destiny’s flotsam
the distant past of unchartered happenstance

Sudden awakening asks
are we not but a universe of questionable life
destined for borderless answers
to be the history of secrets unspoken
fated with identity’s concealment
the ever changing shape of
shadows forged from chance

But for some of us...

Does not our personal unknown reach out
confronting manufactured answers too simple
even as we are dismissed as bothersome intrusions
suggesting our questions thread worn

Yet the unanswerable remains tenacious
believing secrets never lie
that among endless beginnings
eventual verity provides the light
delivering shorter and shorter shadows

Believing life’s mysterious secret
is merely Patience preparing another random crack
webbing the translucent shell of creation
where eggs-ethereal continue to be nurtured
for yet more of the infinite unanswerable
some of us wait
