Trigger-Finger

Does the index finger know
The company it keeps
The digit that first discovers
That finger painting spawns imagination
That realizes early on that candy and cake
Is given with the mere point
That competition prizes the lifted "one"
As evidence of achievement
That the assist it provides in softly pinching a child's cheek
The guidance to a pencil
Or the triumphal moment of moving one's Queen into check mate
Might be in preparation
For the gentle swipe of an endless tear

For

It takes only one index finger
To trigger the red button we all fear
Even as we hope such company
Will remain
Unused
Untested
Unrealized

Our fingers become symbols of our dissociated minds and hearts. So much arrogance in wanting to manipulate the world. Essential thoughts.

How you see things is amazing. A finger. One single finger. And what it does. Your style of delivering a vision and/or concept is like a watermark. Classically unique around the bend and back. ~~ Diana

tools (weapons as much as anything else) were designed with the index finger first
and foremost in mind...interesting to contemplate
a life without fingers and indeed without tongue..
but i take your well-made point, Odin;
as always, so worthwhile and penetrating

It's that stray digit in the brain that is causing the problem, not the index finger.

In Thai étiquette, it is disrespectful to point a finger. Perhaps we should employ Thai etiquette to those in the nuclear watchtowers.
