For What Cries Conscience
To prepare
Does not the anvil welcome the touch of hot metal
The leverage to accept the hammer's destiny
While emotion of red cools to steel blue
Rendering edge now sharp
Its purpose prepared
To wield
Thrust past the warding hand
Slashes soft center
The gape of no scream
Peers past what light remains
Wishing for death
To live by the sword
On to the next village
Eyes of hatred
Dried open
Forever fixed
Knowing not the gentle breeze
Even as Nature's sentry by choice
Signals hardier winds behind
Life's purification always at the ready
Distinguishing not between enemy and innocents
Wishing only to fulfill its inward monitor
To die by the sword
Reflects but another day of habitual smoke and stench
Where ignorance exhausts hope
Collapsing into its own dead air
Where slow suffocation hidden
Fights to become the norm
For what
Cries conscience
So sadly what most of humanity has done for centuries of bloody conflict on this planet.
