Final 2012 debates are on the horizon. One’s mouth has many uses. Some might argue it is overrated. What thoughts might be going through the minds of bright children today? Might they be the only ones exercising honest thinking? What choices are we giving them?

Supersized Orifice

Mouths can drink a Big Gulp
Set hot dog records for Nathan's
Antagonize the stomach of too many margaritas
Even amplify each night's snoring largo

Yet perhaps its destiny lies
in perpetuating language to communicate
how miraculous
this organ of molding
and shaping sound
conveys
meaning
wants
needs
joys
disappointments

If so

How sad then
this sorrowful bio-megaphone
spewing
hate
bigotry
intolerance
and lies

Have we forever lost the will
to "do the right thing?"

Is there confusion reigning here?
Has the brain crossed wires?

Wasn't the other orifice
designed to purge waste?

Have we grown weary
and worn from habitual duplicity?

Are we rapidly returning
to a one-cell existence?

Can we believe our texts
and trust evolution will sort out this
momentary
transitional
weigh station?

Let us hope such is the answer...right?

This doesn't last, does it?

Wow and Wow. Huge. Fabulous. Although I don't speak of politics; it's like talking about why is there air, I commend this writing with A++ because of its 'observation.' This is exactly what I see. I am glad I'm not alone and that someone can articulate and illustrate the insanity so eloquently. Thank you. I would like to answer your introductory question segment: "Might they be the only ones....." Yes, I say yes. A child would answer directly a question asked of them with 'yes' or 'no,' instead of "look, you've got to understand...." A ruby by any other name, RC, would perhaps not feel as 'red'. We tend to like big things… The bigger the better, and probably think there are no limits. But, when it comes to debates, I can't help thinking how Lincoln trounced Stephen Douglas in those debates so long ago.

Choices and children in your opening statement, if you will, Their allowed to have too many choices in some cases.
I hope also, that NY is allowed to have Big Gulps on principle alone.
Debates would be nice if they actually picked a topic and debated. Ya know, the classified stuff, the next day sound bytes are so boring. So basically your write has my head spinning. So much for a good night sleep. Really, this was thought provoking, liked this Odin.
