Time is truly a healer; its cost easily embraced by the unknown horizon.

Scars' Perpetual Bliss
by Odin Roark

Our surface etchings
How quiet the disfiguring moves
Skin's tenacity ever protective
Even as tissue of smiles eventually
Becomes but canyon topography of times past

Leisurely proceeds savage healing beneath
Bombarded with nature's unexpected
Aging platelets shift
Taking their time
Knowing we wait
Uplifting sorrows once buried
Making molten the flow
Once contained and hardened

Whether by deed
Word
Or thought
Wounds start open
Their scars knowing patience
Art rendered of the dreaded kind

And then...

A day finally arrives
Scars begin to shrivel
Age becomes its own embrace
The earned chameleon friendship
A cycle complete
The rebirth of crying
The wrinkled baby awaiting protection

This time
With the long sleep
Poised at the threshold
Where awakening
Remains unnecessary
Smile muscles mix with sadness
One's completed resonance becomes
All as one
Once more

I marvel at how many vastly different ways you can write of the beginning, middle, end of the human life cycle, always always with the freshest ingredients. In here I detect some middle-age in stanza three. After that... "Age becomes its own embrace" carries to me visions I have had as a house-call nail/skin/hair service- provider, where the elderly cocoon themselves and display the last two lines of your stanza four. Consistently there is observed fetal curling, shrinkage, weepage, seepage, and the very melancholy that you speak in lines 6,7,8 & 9 of the last stanza. By then, the beauty seen by them becomes your lines 4&5 of the last stanza. Your finger is on the pulse in this creation, Odin, but I'm thinking it isn't a self-pulse....yet. :) ~~ Appreciatively, Diana

Eyes are the windows to the soul, but scars can often tell us much about a being's life.
