Ashen Quest
by Odin Roark
The urn is tipped,
scattered ash enjoins jetstream,
jetsam, and flotsam,
riding the winds and currents
of nature amassing the next evolution of life's decay.
The unknown stirs our consciousness beyond the given,
portending departure from one actuality
into another molecular iteration
now free to roam among other floating particles,
airborne stowaways enfolded in winged flights,
eventually descending into other ocean-saturated resolve,
bobbing patiently,
awaiting new beginnings.
A measureless history this,
where matter exists forever,
where ash continues as yesterday's index,
referencing tomorrow's unexposed pages.
Scattered cremains,
once of flesh and blood
now return to the vortex of cosmic chance,
discovering once again,
life’s finger-paints of emergence
continuing its tireless quest
to create mini-masterpieces for infinity.
Considering “to mourn
or not to mourn…”
Omniscience winks.
Let's hope we are intelligent enough to solve our problems before our essence turns to dust and ashes again.
