Sisyphean Challenge

Lexis lovers,
pick your rock.

Yes,

It’s uphill for the anticipated future.
as language is being reduced to below
the lowest common denominator.

As Sarah refuses to say: “Media is not the enemy of the people,”
so goes the primitive idol worship of “language be damned” stickedness,
counting on true journalism to succumb to insults of fake news.

How unnatural this negative accusation of sentient expression,
motivating the demise of capable reason and rational mentality,
forcing a wallowing in mediocre sounds and emoji labels of cowardice,
the kind of humanist cowering that our ancestors fought against,
going so far as to try and make a series of governing documents
represent a populist conviction longing for truth and commitment.

Yet…

We are succumbing to an ignoring of the language,
once of sacred holding,
now but a punching bag
for the ignorant that desires no better,
the lazy who wish to be left alone with their Doritos,
the truly lost who know no better.

How heavy the rock is becoming,
the push uphill arriving at a standstill,
the roll back inevitable,
the quashing of language seemingly unavoidable.

Still…

For those of us not yet entrapped,
desiring to express the language with respect,
wanting only to arrive at its pinnacle of influence,
in spite of the onslaught of greed for profiting over indifference.

If only...

The tech industries were
a bit more life oriented,
a bit more enamored with encouraging long form expression,
and less worried about their stock value
and advertisers' wind-fall joy over superficial reactions
to “abbreviation” obsession. If only.
