Poem Artwork

Tomorrow's Canvases Unknown

Life's mind colors…

Like the number paintings stored in attic webs
become dust covered pleasures of memories past,
when Ferris wheels rotated dreams,
calliope horse-poles galloped gently,
cotton candy played catch-me-if-you-can.

How easy awareness painted the future…

Laid down the colors most apparent.

Reds of sunset passions.

Blues of ocean’s contemplation.

Yellows of cornfield mazes.

Green making all the tundra plush as summer lawn.

Yet…

Bright hues,
like even-numbered shapes,
fall short of color containment.
Boundaries bleed.
Chance pushes risk.
Mustards find full-up dance cards.
Purples hemorrhage heart-bruises once flawless cover.
Gray becomes reality's true color.

Awareness dictates…

No blacks.
No whites.

Simple brush strokes…

Evolve to palette-knife strata.
Thickness of time layers over.
Numbered boundaries melt away.
Framed borders cease to be.

How wonderful this wanderlust…

Wisdom's gift-wrapped beginning,
ever grateful the loft-stored memories,
thankful the spider web's defending watch.

Such protects time-tinted colors,

now with no names,
no identity.

Initiation's flirtatious way

patiently mixes aroused shades,
the future’s tints and dyes to be cast.

Welcome to your own personal

tomorrow's canvases unknown.

Yep, except for a few times I agreed . . ."How wonderful this wanderlust…"

They say we shape our future and the future of others. But there is an immutable process going on in the background that creates futures, at least in my case, that are dark and dreary as written in my short stories. On the other hand, it is possible to write one's true path into the future with enough insight and guts to put it down on canvas.
