Last Night It Stormed
In my dreams,
Outside my walled sanctuary
Where Yesterday's yesterday
Remains forever,
A small,
But persistent patch of weeds
Appeared like shriveled legs of a dead spider
Invading my mind once again.
Memories of unrequited love,
Once clinging to long forgotten sunshine,
Languished helplessly,
Like crumpled cigarette butts
Adrift a sunken vessel's
Storm pounded flotsam.
This morning…
Quiet winds ushered in the dawn,
Clouds lifted their curtains
Revealing today's bed of flowers
That place where once heart's crumbling landscape
Knew only broken branches,
Where blossoms once perished,
Trusting its season
Would appear again.
Last night it raged.
Washing clean a mind
No longer enslaved to
Disappointment's remains,
Spawning regret's graffiti scrawls,
Mistake's tattered windblown debris,
Anger's stain-laden broken glass.
Like a once abandoned castle,
Its windows gaped broken,
Letting winds of the past
Swirl a perpetual vortex of gloom,
Whipping the dreams of tomorrow,
Conscience moves cautiously,
Rethreading the will's damaged tapestry,
Repairing welcome's light eternal,
Replanting where once weeds did flourish,
Last night bereavement reigned,
And morning answered with sunlight,
Letting not the dread of what could follow
Become the fact of what is to be.
