Shallow Deep
When shallow waters of perception
Venture into the depth of consciousness
Where the quest for incite beyond the obvious,
Asks for courage above and beyond the norm,
Why do so many run?
Rocks and debris of disappointment afford the obstacles
Making the journey through reality truly real,
Yet most would choose to avoid the confrontations,
Sinking further into self-delusion of satisfaction’s intoxicative.
Yet…
For those of adventure,
With every breath they take,
For those who see life as living,
Not surviving the mundane life of acceptance,
There is the encounter so many often choose,
There is life as unending challenge,
Not armchair and popcorn-induced vicarious reward.
Oh, how fulfilling to know one has risked,
Stumbled,
Picked themselves up,
Forged ahead and realized,
Through their sorrow,
They are truly alive.
Such is a being of conscience,
A person only wanting to be worthy of the self-respect
That comes with having ventured into the unknown,
Learned, and maybe…
Become wiser?
Some would argue,
Risk makes dying easier, you know?
"Sinking further into self-delusion of satisfaction's intoxicative."
The unknown is there partly as incentive, to lure us out of ourselves. An interesting poem inducing further thought.
