With Death Comes Absurdity
One of us
All of us
One at a time
Laughing on our death bed
Eternity hovering at the ceiling
Like a drone ready to expose secrets
All while the rest of us
Like moths turned on around an incandescent message
We waited
Outside…
The gas station attendant
Looked up at our window
Speaking nonsense about his friends the clouds
Clouds
Really
Serious is often laughable, eh?
An owl called out
But received nary an answer
The beauty of that last moment of absurdity
Like a chimp offering his last banana as sympathy
Was such independence
Like a car trekking about off-road
Losing its wheel that careens about alone
Until stabilizing into the oneness of existence
Rolling along with everything else
Biding its time for one of Plato’s untried forms
Oh…
It’s arguable
We all die the same way
