There is a kind of “Open the lid” magic to a fall season storm romance. (Image by Vladimir Kush)

Afternoon shadows turn dark as they creep along the grass

4:35…

Skies remain blue

Yet no birds are seen

Butterflies have disappeared

Squirrels give but cursory glance at treetops

Resident ants are nowhere to be found

4:40…

As for the always active trees in the yard

Branches hesitantly move

In respect of something about to open up

Of which nature’s family seems still-frame-poised in time

Captivated with the deepened quiet of a true grand entrance becoming

Nature is truly more tuned into changes in the weather that we are. But if we study what is going on around us, creatures can give us the cues we need to recognize that a storm is coming. It seems in this West Coast season, that storms are more ominous than usual, setting fires willy-nilly that are the most destructive results of weather changing when a beautiful blue summit day turns into lightning setting a hellfire night.
