Voyage

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

This is just a quick reflection for the day. For the skeptic, who attempts to remain conscious as the years mount up, the prevailing carrot proffered by the media seems to be this gloom and doom, versus that gloom and doom. For me, even as the soothsayers promote the dark, the journey just gets better and better. Wishing you the same. (Image by Pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Voyage

Who is out there
that colors my Nordic soul at will,
that sometimes takes my hand,
that sometimes drags me across

an endless stretch of rusty anchors?

What is out there

that waits in the darkness for me to falter,
that thinks my will is but a matter of time,
that wonders at the often discomfort I willingly endure

 to reach journeys’ end?

Why is the light so patient
as to sleep while I run,
to blink when I cry,
to patiently wait with beams of enlightenment

as my reflecting years slow to curious days
waiting to find out
what

who

why

is beyond the horizon?

I look at it two ways: Sure, the voyage for all of us who don't stay home and venture out trying to make a mark in the world is tough. Some of us don't feel we really made it. But what we've been through amounts to nothing less than spectacular. Imagine we humans walking on another planetoid, our moon! And then coming back! When you were born there were no jet planes, no personal computers, no Internet.

Mainstream media seeks the extreme every day only because it is very competitive and needs to stay that way. Anyone with a careful thought will realize that the world is much better than the media projects. We just have to turn to our friends and neighbors.

This one really strikes home.

To be without a foundation or roots in old age is horrifying to me. Your sad piece reminded me of an Albert Camus quote from The Fall. "Men are never convinced of your reasons, of your sincerity, of the seriousness of your sufferings, except by your death. So long as you are alive, your case is doubtful; you have a right only to their skepticism." All the best to you in your 84th year. rlc
