Weed Garden

Nimbly we look the other way, forget to attend to growth, wallow in the contamination of hubris blinding the awareness of love slowly becoming endangered. Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Weed Garden

Once of velvety blooms

Where color and form

Made of fragrant purpose

Kept pure the air breathed in

Until all the air

Became null and void

Where suffocation of beauty

Remanded the garden to decay

What causes beauty and purpose

To evolve to ugliness and lifeless energy?

Why does the care of a garden

Turn into but eradication of disease

Where like a beetle infestation

Strength to resist debilitation

Becomes but futile effort?

Just as a flower garden must be nurtured

Given irrigation and food for growth

So too will love disintegrate

Void of its nourishment and care

Everyone is borne of a flower garden

Whose parenting determines

Its predisposition for defending

Beauty’s precarious stand

Against the wrong kind of erosion

The manmade decay through suffocation

Of life’s breathing in and breathing out

Where seeding more misbegotten values

Flourishes

Wow! This is a beautiful poem. I can relate, being a gardener, wondering why the garden is so lush and thriving in spring, then the same plants so ugly and unwanted by summer's end. True of love, as well. The garden is a metaphor for so many things. Very good!

In this one, one specific line bursts out for me…..”The manmade decay through suffocation”. That one represents all the other lines, to me. Each reader will have a particular concept of what ‘suffocation’ is to them. For me, it is the two words used “love disintegrate” and these two “manmade decay” . . the greatest of all “misbegotten values.” What tremendous two words are those! ~~ the other Diana

Completely different for every

Took me years to pull the noxious weeds from my garden, but it's blooming now. A thought provoking pen, Odin. Your thoughts and spirit run deep.

As I reflected on your analogy between a relationship and a garden, I remembered a noted architect telling me that, "Nature is the best landscaper."

Throughout history, going back as far as the hanging Gardens of Babylon, the efforts of humans to create a landscape of beauty always failed in time. While an unattended region of the Tigris and Euphrates has been described as the Garden of Eden. Weeds, if left to grow provide much more variety and food for all kinds of insects, birds and animals. They can become breathtaking in full bloom.

When we humans don't understand that we don't have to create a high maintenance garden, our relationship with someone, that relationship just naturally grows. But when we lavish attention on someone too much, they began to become dependent, or even codependent and the relationship easily fails from overindulgence. The one left to go to weed lives on and on and grows in complexity and beauty like a wild field.

i love this, Odin. mental diet, self awareness, and controlled imagination- and it takes practice and self training. we can't keep consuming thoughts and suggestions that do not contribute to our ideals. truly is a waste of our creative energy. but we all are learning to navigate. oh and btw, i am ecstatic, there are a lot of people who are also doing just that and know the value of their thoughts and keeping their streams crisp and pristine. thanks again for this wonderful piece.
