Reflection

With a modicum of imagination, one can reduce life’s quintessence to almost everything Nature has made possible.

Poem Artwork

Reflection

Seedlings scatter

Flourish

Blossom

Harvest

A roadside stand

Its brown paper bags swaying in the breeze

Brought our wheels to a halt

An apple we thought

Maybe two

Why not a dozen

Filled to the top

Full paper bag

From bended boughs

To hands of laboring smiles

To the bins

And filling of arms

Succulent apples we sink our teeth into

Orchard dust enjoined

As we take to our bodies

The love of sun

Shade

Water

And caring hands

Sharing with us

Labor’s laughter and joy

Picking

Sorting

Stocking

Selling

Such was the day

We lived as if death

Was but imaginative

While mirth and glee

Made sweet the memory

Of taste and happenstance

Understanding…

From seedlings came blossom

From blossom came maturity

From maturity came harvesting

From harvesting came sharing

The mellifluous essence of life

Emulated

In

An

Apple

So goes reflection on a life

Very visual. An analogy that resonates with me. There are many lessons in nature for those who are attuned. Peace.... r

Always loved those roadside stands. My grandparents had a truck farm for about three years until it got to be too much work for them. I was part of that harvesting, right from the dirt of the farm, peanuts, sweetcorn, Indian corn for popping, cucumbers, strawberries, carrots, cabbages, peas and beans, you name it.

The farmers selling their produce were always friendly and happy to share their bounty with us for very little pocket change. Sweet memories.

Such in-depth details that takes us through a process that is seemingly everyday, made inspiring and beautiful by the poet's sweet, succulent apples of words.
