Unanswerable Because...

Poem Artwork

Unanswerable Because…

Because

we struggle to be one with the world

such as merging human perception

with summer air idling

among the maples’ weathered trunks

Because

we find we can’t shape the

wind as it embraces the leaves

or become the wood

any more than the lightening fire

nature may use to maintain its love

can guide the flames it creates

Because

we can’t be the oceans

or the creatures beneath

but only another creature pleased

by their existence

Because

we’re evident to orchestra members

as they play

but can never be the shimmer of the strings

or the timbre of the drums

Because

songs exist only in the singing

and can never be the singer

just as an idle voice knows not

the magic of vibrations forming

Because

striving to be one with all

means listening to history’s rhythm

pounding beneath our breast

closing our eyes to see beyond

Because

it may all be illusion

discover your muse

reach out

extend an invitation to share the next dance

the next caress of your pen

the next moment which is always

one with the world

because…

The question raised can only be answered by further inquiry and experience. No one can experience it all. But some seemed able to absorb more like those savants of memory on quiz shows that seem to know everything, especially, trivial things. But do they really know what all?

As I lose my hearing in my sight no longer needs or wants to read the fine print, my limbs no longer feel tremors or vibrations or even rough or smooth, am l losing touch with reality? Like your poem suggests, I am trying to work more and more. But every time I learn something that encourages me to learn even more about that something.

The more we learn, the more we realize we know nothing at all. Our gathered knowledge is merely a speck of dust in a vaste ocean of what’s to come. Still, each of us have our special skill that when placed in the right context can make a difference in peoples life. I would like to know how to put music to the words I write, but don’t know how. And that’s fine with me, because we’re all part of the puzzle that make this world what it is. And of course, no one but you could have written this interesting and thought provoking poem. I will come back to read it because there are many good lessons to take to heart here.
