The One

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

On Mother’s Day, like for many seniors, the empty chair at the table brings on melancholy. For me, the thought of the ancient sages who focused on the immortality of their ideas rather than of their bodies, gives me solace and trust in the yin and yang of existence. They knew, for instance, it was not possible for anyone to live forever, but if they opted to create something of value to humanity and allow it to be passed down from one generation to the next as long as human beings existed. In that way, persons could achieve longevity far beyond the limited mortal lifespan.

Poem Artwork

The One

How illusive

Yet fundamental

This concept of all

Being of one

Thus…

Deaths from far away

Create a karmic shock wave

Impacting the all as one

Often without any obvious alert

Such subtle moments ask for reactions

Allowing one to either wallow in bitterness and rage

Against an unjust fate

Or

Allow one’s inner self to take on

The spiritual responsibility

To come to terms with the experience

Define its meaning

Create the continuance

Of the vibration

Others are waiting

To neglect someone’s death

Is to allow the event to incapacitate you

To approach with reverence

To draw strength

Affirmation

And trust

Is to understand life’s pattern

How simple

Yet magnanimous

This word

One

“Create the continuance/Of the vibration” — a wise condensed reveal of what Lynne McTaggart’s book ‘The Field,’ and the ‘What the Bleep Do We Know?’ 2004 documentary present as ‘connectivity.’ I like you using the term ‘magnanimous’ for the concept of ‘One’. Also the shock wave impacting “…the all as one” I think so many people concur that feeling, including very small children who may see a televised disaster and then in their innocence and ‘connectivity’ will say…..”and then I fell from the bridge.” Fascinating. ~~ djl

The concept of us all being one is something that I subscribe to. What affects another human on the other side of the world, even if I don't know that human, it affects me.

However, death, whether it be a relative, close or distant, or even someone very far away that I don't know, has not yet in my life, caused me to grieve as though I lost a part of me. That may happen to me in the future, but not yet. For even my twin brother, as close as we have remained, and my mother, who I did not take care of in her later years, but financially contributed to her well-being along with my brothers and sister, did not cause me any pain when she died because it is natural to die and I fully accept it.

Whether it is early or late, my work is in cyberspace and will linger long after I'm gone. Whether I rest in peace or in turmoil.

'One' is the spiritual essence of singularity, seeking, reaching, exploring to define self. A strong assertive symbol of individuality. Written numerically the #1 looks like an arrow. 'One' smile can bring unity. 'One' person can change your entire life. 'One' hug can encourage a friendship. 'One' last breath brings physical death and transition. "To come to terms with the experience" has been far easier (in my life) than to "define its meaning." To do that requires a kind of wisdom that is not naturally occurring in human beings. A thought-provoking insight. Peace.... r
