The Light of Dark

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Having watched the 2012 Prometheus film by Ridley Scott for the first time last night, my subsequent nocturnal journeys were unlike any imaginings before and perhaps ever after as I can’t imagine lucidity ever being as demanding and compassionate as I experienced in the light of dark.  The Light of Dark

I am…

my imaginings verging on sane
lighting up ideas in the dark
churning the cauldron of angels
lifting me and my doubts
giving me to where I long
and maybe
if I feel the tremor
carry me back
where feelings warm again yet scared
heart racing like a feather's flutter in a hurricane
turn my hour glass once again

I am a man…

vibrating with the collaborative
as flood lights arc
visceral memories resonate through my tissue
recalling the tweak of mind spasms
clenching tight the pages of script
when first a voice uttered the word
when first an image came alive
pushing me into a theatre's black tornado night

I am a man inside-out…

knowable from afar
by the never-sleep-look of my eyes
the Murine forever poised between my fingers
calming the synaptic lightning
forever thundering across my lens

I am a man inside-out and reaching…

re-born in swirling mind's weather
the storm's eye seeking calm
clearing overhead clouds
where some know my blasphemous ignoring of gods
whose sacrosanct eggshells no one is to tread upon
where suits now tremble at the laser of my eyes
crossing me at their peril
knowing I can swallow their light
forever smothering the anger lashing them into their spin
cocooning their palm trees by my own spin of another kind

I am a man inside-out reaching for…

when Urania sets to flight my head

hurtle me into the vacuous silence
whiteness of black forever filling my palette with color
laced with the dissonance of my melodies.

I am of what

I know not of

A wide range of images and impressions that resonate on multiple levels.
Some notable lines: "Heart racing like a feather's flutter in a hurricane." It doesn't get more intense than that.

"Reborn in the swirling mind's weather," and subsequent lines, so well executed. Fine work here.

As I read, apparently Prometheus gave your mind the fodder for the rather strange and multiplicity of ideas that he shared in your attempt at describing what your brain was doing last night as you were in the normal trance of sleep where we do not have control of what our mind is doing with information that it picked up and is attempting to digest the put into short or long-term memory.

In short, a strange movie giving you strange dreams. Like a scary movie giving a kid frightful dreams, nightmares. I can't recall having seen a movie recently that affected my dreams, but some videos I have watched or things that I read.

'Prometheus' was unquestionably on the cutting edge of film making. No doubt. Ridley Scott was a real force for remarkable visuals. The film showcased two of my favorite actors (at the time) Noomi Rapace, and Idris Elba. And though the story-line (IMO) was unique and intriguing, the writing was very poor, and most of the characters were shallow. Personally, I enjoyed the movie. And even though it was radically far-fetched, and easily forgotten, it still slapped you good in the senses. It's obvious by what you wrote, that it moved on and in you in mysterious ways. Glad it gave you a new perspective of yourself to explore. Good writing. Thanks for sharing. Hope you're well. Peace... rlc
