Elation
Consider how much of life finds elation through thinking,
Saying,
And doing
In harmony?
Might there be a sense of profound joy
When an animal, such as a German Shepherd,
Behaves in a wise and keen way
With eyes that seem to understand
The silent language of the heart?
Does not serenity follow
Birds singing their morning hymns,
Each note a testament to gaiety,
Their wings a dervish-like dance of freedom
In the vast,
Unending expanse of blue?
And does not Nature express happiness
In its own way,
Where flowers bloom with grace,
Petals glisten in dew’s reflection of sun,
The nurturing of balance between
Light and shade?
Humans…
Be they children feeling such delight
In the simplicity of a mother’s smile,
Amidst a world of wonder awakening
Youth’s simple need of fulfillment,
Or…
In teen years
Where discovery arrives with fanfare alongside
The thrill of newness in the quest for self.
By adulthood…
There arrives
For those in harmony of thought
Word
And deed,
An epiphany confirming
A life lived true begets
A heart at peace,
Where the journey
Is realized
And shared.
Is there any end to serenity achieved?
To arrive at the gates of
Blended beingness,
The wisdom of the canine,
The melodies of the birds,
The bloom of flowers,
And the simple profundity of truth,
Where we live as we think and do,
Elation becomes the quietness of essence.
Animals instinctively know how to behave. It's humans who mistreat them that get it all wrong.
