Trust's Faultlines of Betrayal

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

There comes a time in every victim of Betrayal when he or she must find the means to complete a healing process. For a few, grounding the process in some prosetry becomes a means that hopefully assists. (Image by Odin AI)

 Trust’s Faultlines of Betrayal

I
Gentle waves…
lap the shore,
soft whispers curling around bare ankles.
The sand?
A patient canvas,
welcoming footprints like promises
drawn in salt and sunlight.
The tide hums a lullaby,
its rhythm steady,
as if night itself leans close
to listen in on two hearts
building a temple of trust

beneath the constellations.

II
Night deepens,
and the tide swells like breath,
slow, deliberate,
lovers inhaling before the kiss.
Moonlight drips silver
into the ocean’s cupped hands,
and every wave
becomes a vow
rolling toward the shore.
The world feels infinite,
as if nothing could fracture

this quiet empire of innocent blue.

III
But deep below—
where silence holds its breath,
a tremor stirs.
Like a shiver through the bones of the sea.
The waves falter,
their silver tongues trembling,
as if the currents remember
how fragile its calm can be.
Belief quakes in the fathoms of passion
and the smooth blue skin
splinters into anxious curls,
each one a question
breaking against the shore.

IV
Then…
eruption.
The bottom bursts

like a wound suddenly rupturing,
vomiting darkness into the blue.
A surge rises,
wild, merciless,
a beast of purging tears clawing at the sky.
Trust is torn from its moorings,
thrust into a swirling cascade of doubt.
Each wave a blade.
Each crest a scream.
The world of peace shatters,
love drowned in the undertow,
while the betrayed sprints upward,
chasing the illusion of higher ground,
only to be dragged back
into the choking throat of loss.

V
The ocean of passion roars its verdict,
and the shore becomes a battlefield
of splintered shells,
shards of yesterday’s laughter
strewn like flotsam across the sand.
Every breath feels borrowed,
every heartbeat a negotiation
with the emoting storm.
And yet,
the climb begins,
hands clawing at jagged outcrops of dismay,
feet bleeding against the scarified truth:
survival is not grace,
it is grit.

VI
And then…
quiet.
Not peace,
but the hush after fury.
A plateau carved by endurance,
where scars glisten like tide lines
on the heart’s raw shore.
Healing?
A pilgrimage.
A long road paved with fragile security,
and the prayer that such quakes
will never return.
Perhaps forgiveness blooms
in the smallest of moments
when a puppy, shivering but alive,
its tail a quivering rudder of direction,

eyes like two candles of hope
guiding the way back
to something safe…
something tender…
something that will not experience

another tear-swollen threat of betrayal.

What an outpouring of your journey from the final betrayal that you've been writing yourself through for so long now.

I'm glad to see you making it on your own and have finally put that terrible episode behind you.

This poem moves from growing positive emotion to growing negative emotion, each of the sections replete with fantastic supportive images and symbols supporting the poem's theme. I couldn't list them all. So well done, so interesting.
