A 64-minute hour is proposed, along with a 64-second minute. Total time in an hour would be the same, if the clock ran 64/60 or 1.066666666... times as fast. The advantage would be that precision could be varied from 1 hour to 1 second, or 12 octaves.
The 60-minute hour has had its day.
It was convenient, as long as you didn’t want
More precision than 15 minutes.
Consider the case where you would want
To vary the precision by octaves:
Then you could state the time to the nearest
60 minutes, or 30 minutes, or 15 minutes,
but then it gets complicated:
7.5 minutes or 3.75 minutes,
or 1.875 minutes or 0.9375 minutes.
But, what if time were reckoned as
64 minutes to an hour?
We wouldn’t have to mess with
The total time in an hour or minute or day.
The clock would just run
64/60 =1.0666666666
times as fast.
Then the precision could be
64 minutes or 32 minutes, or 16 minutes
Or 8 minutes or 4 minutes or 2 minutes or 1 minute.
If there were 64 seconds to the minute,
Then, as well, the precision could go smoothly
To 32 seconds or 16 seconds or 8 seconds
Or 4 seconds or 2 seconds or 1 second.
From one hour to 1 seconds is 12 octaves!
