How at times I feel immune, encased in plastic,
on the surface like a Water Strider. That insect
that skims over the skin of bodies of moisture.
That creature often termed the Jesus Bug is me.
I can't penetrate the pools. I am useless as a
foreign penny at the bank but will become
legal tender. Let me drop and immerse myself
in you and in everything. Give me gills and give
me courage. Push me. Pull me into the depths.
We become delicate and skate on the periphery.
You are that catfish, bearing scars, defying odds.
