She passed in front of me, soft as cat feet. Fog
cupping the hills; fog plating my head. I paused
at the light there at the three way. Blink, blink.
On her way to work at the two story McDonalds
downtown, a place now surrounded by dozers.
The city builds a new bridge. The community
prepares for the Black Gold Festival. And
a slight woman in a red and yellow uniform
walks to work. Beside the teeth of a massive
yellow rock truck, she steps out of my path
of vision. Gone like a furry animal to the river.
The waters flow like icing down a warm cake.
The river is you, is me. Channels of silence.
Be always safe,
Karen
