My Seconds
By Kathy Lynn
My firsts I had when very young
Too young to really understand
That there was much more to love
Than just being with a man
My firsts was a dream unfulfilled
No Cinderella ending; no glass slipper
No Prince to hold me and caress
No starry eyes; tears that whimper
My firsts shredded all my dreams
Feelings fled within a shell
A soul emptied of all it felt
A open heart, no place to dwell
You are my seconds
After years of drought
Your patience and tenderness
Showed me what love was all about
You are my seconds
Awakening all my dormant senses
My hart rejoiced and quickened
Shedding all its defenses
You are my seconds,
Knocking down all my defenses
Reveling in these new feelings
Knocking down hard made fences
You are my seconds,
My soul rejoices in the light
Opening yourself all to me
Stars could never shine this bright
You are my seconds
Fulfilling my every dream
Showing me with your heart
What true love really means
