shoes are so very worn
From all the years he worked in the hot sun
Each day to the barn he would trod
Shuffling along kicking up sod
.
Feeding the horses and chickens their grain
Collecting all the eggs once again
Whistling for the kittens to come to be fed
After he milked the cows …he would pat them
Each on the head
.
Grandpa had an orchard that he tended
Each and every day
Fields of corn and acres of hay
.
Tractors would be running from dawn to dusk
Working the land and planting the seeds
He planted everything to be stored for winter
Every kind of produce we would need
.
Grandpa worked hard all his life
Always a smile as he rocked in his chair
Smoking his daily pipe
.
He would gather us around when his work was done
Telling us stories of when he was young
We all listened in awe as he told his tales
About cowboys and Indians and western jails
.
Grandpa has gone to the great land in the sky
But his life and stores will never die
