Deep Inside

Touching the cold lifeless image,
fingertips nimble from age-
Somewhere within, those wrinkled passages,
hides the war on dreams, she waged

Never forgotten, just stored away,
like treasures, of golden worth-
Oh, once in a while she'd take a peek,
to refill her heart with mirth

Though her sight, not as sharp as before,
her face, not as youthful and smooth-
Still so much she has gained, from life-
her soul, the power to soothe

She's climbed mountain ranges high,
treaded waters, swift and deep-
Tended the ill; Comforted the dying;
watched over the child that sleeps

Her knees have been sore from chores,
yet still, she knelt to pray-
Rest deprivation would often find her,
but a smile she'd wear the next day

While her mirror always reflects,
it never delves far deep inside-
It's there, her beauty, and lifelong dreams,
were never, ever denied

I became one with this poem.
The body may age, leaving character lines. The soul is forever young..

Fantastic write, Lisa. It is never about what a person looks like on the outside, but thier soul that speaks of who they truly are. You really reach down deep with this one Lisa, and pull up the image of someone we all know/knew. Such a beautiful poem, you always give me something to aspire to.
Take care

This is one great write Lisa and it immdediately made me think of my own mothers struggles. She raised nine of us and never complained and died at 54. Loving her husband and kids to the very end. Thank you for reminding me of how lucky I was.

A splendid tribute Lisa, and a great example of the way we should look at the aging process, still seeing the beauty in the essence of those we love, like. admire.Always superb poetry from you!

I lost my mother two weeks ago to emphysema and your poem was a poignant reminder of how precious life is and that beauty comes from the soul which can never be denied. Beautiful write.
