And Well... That Just Isn't So

To have suddenly remembered-
That would mean I would have
forgotten-
And well... That just isn't so

There wasn't a special song, on the
radio that played-
No old photo on the wall, that
caught my eye today-
It wasn't the closet, where
your clothes once hung-
or the smell of your favorite
cologne

To have suddenly remembered-
That would mean I would have
forgotten-
And well... That just isn't so

It wasn't that torn, stained shirt,
that I hid years ago-
or the reading glasses, you lost;
or a morning tv show-
There wasn't a stranger, that
smiled at me, the same
way you once did-
I didn't look around for you,
when I couldn't open
the lid

To have suddenly remembered-
That would mean I would have
forgotten-
And well... That just isn't so

It wasn't the stillness of  the
morning-
as I waited for dawn to
arrive-
Nor was it the fading of a season-
or the dreams gone from
our lives

To have suddenly remembered-
That would mean I would have
forgotten-
And well... That just isn't so

For you are there, in every dawn-
In every drop of rain-
Each waking moment; Every breath;
You numb my aches and pains-
You are there in all I do-
Pick me up when I am low-
So to say I suddenly remembered-
Would mean that I had forgotten-
And well... That just isn't so

Lisa, I grew to really love the refrain in this and the underlying feeling of deep love, accepted, and sadness, too. When I start to read a poem a second time and actually do, the poet's struck a chord in me. You did so today. Hope all is well with you, Dawn

This is a potent beauty of a write, Lisa. For some reason, it brought tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat. There are some memories that are so difficult to live with that we put them aside, but forget, that would just never be possible. Then something happens or we see something and the memories we have supressed come immediately to the surface along with the pang of loss to our heart and soul. You describe this so very well and so gently in this magnificient, keeper poem. Great to read another one from you, I miss when you don't post!! I hope you and your family are doing well.
Take care,
Sherry

Lisa, this is an excellent write as only you can pen so well. You put into words so well by using the repetitive verse for it is those memories, which always allows one to remain deep in one’s being. Outstanding work. Thanks for sharing it. Take good care and be well.

Hi Lisa, what a pleasure to read you again. I like the sincerity throughout this poem; an element always present in your writing. And I do agree with Paul's remarks: those we've loved will always live in our hearts.

Lisa,
There is a part of the ones we love in every beat of our hearts and every breath that we take. To say, " we just remembered, could never be so." Quite a piece to treasure.
