Snapshot

It reinvents attitudes and aptitudes,
and we delve into its scheme, open minded,
open hearted, and ready for the cause at hand-

Made us who we are; Gave us comfort for a while,
Only for a short story or two; Then we felt the need
to do it all over again- A nightmare for mankind's theoretical need
to freedom and rights-

There will always be another in the next generation;
on this side of the world or that-
Big houses; fine cars; cold musty caves and graves-
Crossed words fall in the cross hairs of civilized societies-

History books read by the children; Lessons go unlearned;
Rewritten through the ages, for the following class-
One head decides; One hand waves the wand-
and the first shot of war is guzzled down without another thought-

We find ourselves drenched in the blood of ours and theirs;
bathing in the sand, sun, sweat and tears-
Flooded in the sorrow of broken hearted Mothers-
and the amniotic fluid of a pregnant widow-

Ah, 'tis the essence of war in the foothills of yonder's' mountain;
crashing into the lives of all in its shadows-
There's no escaping the pain of its subtle truisms-
yet we go back time after time after time once more-

Stale odors of anger drift where patriotism once proudly stood,
onto the tidy closet floor of our dying youth-
On the mantle of family, a three sided memory;
until a snapshot is all that's left-

When the last shot is fired, and the tally is done;
we'll search through ashes of another war fought-
Medals will be pinned on chests of the brave-
and another generation of chafed silence will go without notice

Wow! Excellent Powerful Sad History books read by the children; Lessons go unlearned;
Rewritten through the ages, for the following class-
One head decides; One hand waves the wand-
and the first shot of war is guzzled down without another thought.
And off they go brave no heitation for every single citizen of the free world sacrificing everything at all costs including their minds, and peace for the citizens to destroy and diss. When will we learn war is Not the answer. When will we learn? Hard hittting powerful! Put this out there everywhere.
Thanks so much Lisa!
our respect and love for you

We live and move in a battleground of Good and Evil, Lisa
There will always be wars, and rumors of war, until the last day, when the war to end all wars takes place, and Our Saviour and Redeemer, Our Lord Jesus Christ appears to open the seals of the Book of Life, and read out the names of his Faithful !
Superlative write, that condenses and summarises war into its final state...futility

The points you bring out are so compelling, Lisa! I wonder if those who take us into wars ever stop to think of these things beforehand? Perhaps if they did there would be more of an effort made to find peaceful coexistence, before going to war. . Write that book and send a copy to our President, and the worlds leaders that are the trouble spots of the world. You may be a cause for peace with your powerful writes about war! Stranger things have happened;-)

WOW! Lisa, this is powerful and so true. We seem to cull out the brave and young with wars that have no winners and no meaning.

This is a wonderful presentation of the greed of the few causes the destruction of the many.

Lisa,

A compelling, heartbreaking comment on the apathy towards serving our country and towards those that have served. You do these so powerfully, an excellent write.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

War leaves scars on all, that are not ever removed.

Its just another damned war and when it is through there will be another until each human on this planet decides enough is enough. We can't seem to get along with our neighbors, let alone other countries and other cultures. There is a pot of gold and we all want to own a piece of it and until we all learn to work together and spread the wealth, war will continue and people will die needlessly. It is a sad and repetitive scenario, Lisa as you have so boldly stated in this excellent poem.
Take care,
Sherry
