This is just my little reality check. I have not been a victim in many years. I was just in bed, awake, thinking about the difference between needs and wants and what is really important to me...

Thief

Door ajar, I enter my room

It is quite empty as I see

The thief has paid me a visit

Gone are my chair, my pillow, my blanket

Gone are my bowl, my pot, my spoon

Gone are my, trinkets, jewels and coins

I see he has spared my most precious possessions

As scattered upon the floor I find my books

And upon the wall remains my rosewood cross

As I kneel to pray for all that I have been granted

I glance out the window and see

My most prized treasures remain

For In his haste, the foolish thief

Has forgotten to steal

The stars and the moon

Great write Sherry! Material things can be replaced, I know, were burlarized once while on vacation. It is a sickening feeling, and made me sooooooo mad to think that what I work hard to get some others think is theirs for the taking. But what matters are the important things in our lives, and some of those cannot be taken away. : )

I always say, if the thief needed it that bad I guess their welcome to it.
I've been really lucky though.
Had some tools disappear one time, but that's all
love and luck.........

"Thief" took my attention and held my breath until I understood the magnetism of poetic compliance flowing through its lines to the closing grandiose!

This poem has delivered a pile of gold to the treasure of Poetry.

)or should be) the most important things in life, and they are not material.Excellent inspirational poem!

Sherry, the poetry is fabulous, and yet, I wonder if in fact you have been the unfortunate victim of a burglary? I sure hope not. If so, I am sorry to hear it. Take good care and cut the S.O.B.’s hands off if they find him. Be well.

I'm glad they left your computer! lol
Sherry, I've been the victim in several of these what the police call random attacks, but they never can manage to steal what is most valuable to all..their soul, their memories, their heart, and inspiration it takes to move on and above life itself.
They can only take monetary items that will get them the next crack rock or heroin fix, and another step down the pathway to an addict's hell. They'll never be able to take who we are or what we are, even if they take our lives, they still don't win, for we are writers and we live on through our words, our thoughts and prayers.
and I'm just glad you are safe.
Take care,
Lisa
