Fisherman’s Wife

Only minutes more before I wake

And say again, goodbye

For only in our dreams, my love

Is there still a you and I

Our hearts were twined the day we met

Through the years the bond stays true

Though ne’er again will I touch your face

Ne’er again, I’ll be held by you

A fisherman was your lot in life

Oh! how you loved the sea

(I never dared to ask you if

You loved her more than me)

One day an angry, raging storm

Tossed your humble ship

With a yaw, you fell into the brine

The sea held you in her grip

They say you never came back up

To take a gasp of air

I still wonder if the sea’s sweet charms

Convinced you to stay down there

She tripped you up and dragged you down

She took you as her own

Not giving even a single thought

To the ones you’d leave alone

Every night when the sun goes down

I tuck our kids in bed

As I brush my hair and red my lips

Thoughts of you flood to my head

And as I slip into a dream

I hear your loving sigh

On a golden dolphin you arrive

And to the stars we fly

In this dream we are as one

Every wish we make comes true

And for that time my life feels sweet

For it is then, I’m not missing you

Oh, let me live within this dream

Command the night to never end

For if I can't be with you, my love

My torn heart will never mend
