Freedom Isn't Free

Freedom Isn’t Free


A year’s come and gone
Since that heart-wrenching day
When life as we knew it
Passed sadly away

Prayers fervently spoken
So many tears cried
Still can’t heal the heartache
For those who have died

For parentless children
And families in shreds
Lives senselessly taken
And too much blood shed

Through minds set in evil
Lives taken in vain
There are not enough tears
To wash out that kind of pain

There’s a high cost for freedom
It’s so plain to see
From those who’ve paid dearly
Our freedom’s not free

a million poets.. a million poems about 9/11.. but you captured it with your line: "our freedom's not free.." thats the one that eluded the rest of us.. I salute you for moving me with one simply stated group of words.. beautiful, sad. Hat's off, sherry. katy.

Thanks for the review. This is a really great poem. Nope freedom is not free. There have been many people who paid the price for America's freedom, and not just on September 11th.
