Halt you Humvee whackos!
Draw a deep painful breath and listen
Can’t you hear Mother Earth’s
gasping cries?
Choking her respiration
with your deadly fumes
Like a flatulent bean eater
squeezed in a sacrosanct choir pew

Desist you SUV lunatics!
Get your toxin-inflamed noses
out of the air
You willfully ignore
Mother Earth’s anguished pleas?
Scorching her hide with your
customized ozone layer loopholes
Causing putrid pustular eruptions
likened to cancer-eaten skin
on her beautiful face

Whoa you Extended Cab crazies!
Engage your noise-damaged ears
Are you deaf to Mother Earth’s lament?
Gobbling up her virgin soil
with your grotesquely inflated
rubber running shoes
Like a brainwashed warrior
choosing plunder and rape
over persuasion and seduction

What would it take to appease
your bloated ego’s
hideously gluttonous appetite?
A barrel of whisky
Or a natural hot springs soak
in a pine scented forest?
A Spanish Fly, a dose of Viagra
Or a flight of moonbeam inspired
sexual Bliss?
A hallucinogen induced stupor
Or a wilderness walk
under brilliant auroras
and playful shooting stars?

Yeah, mindless devourer
of Mother Earth’s
finite treasures
It’s your choice
It’s your dying planet
But not for long!

You know I'm committed to you...flight of moonbeam inspired
sexual Bliss...how ironic that would be...a barrel of whisky it would take me to share my Io's Fire with that other color...there's more to this than meets the eye...and the eye of horus it is...could you two even walk through that door together...

A sad reality is that the actors you name in Your Choice are into such self-feeding, most don't even recognize what they've chosen to do to Mother Earth and the rest of us. Your last stanza names them: "mindless devourer."

Speaking of choosing, your choice of imagery is spellbinding!

What a great write!

Wow, this is excellent.
Especially the ending.
When will we finally wake up?

This is not only power-packed but emotive and visually explosive with many wonderful metaphors and unique imagery. Just fantastic, Carolyn! The message would rate an A* on its own, but you have crafted a piece that is so much more than that. A clarion call that shakes not only the earth, but our wretched and ignorant blindness as well. Your first stanza literally took my breath away!!! The image of the flatulent bean-eater in his sacrosanct pew says it all! Credal religion is as far from the reality of the heart of God as is our "governance" of Mother Earth - and as much a travesty. Kudos to you. TY Kate xx

I agree wholeheartedly. I just got home from vacation with a bad sunburn, which I didn't expect to get because I already had a nice tan. There was an ozone alert out at the time. The air pollution is destroying the ozone layer. I've been thinking about selling my car and getting a scooter, which uses much less gasoline.

Dear Carolyn,

It's a sad state of affairs, mankind does not know when to stop, perhaps only when there is nothing left to pillage.

Powerful piece, Carolyn!! There is nothing I detest more than a trip down to our peaceful river ... only to have the bubbly silence ripped apart by mechanical growls, snarls and the putrifying smell of oil/gasoline wrenched from Mother Earth... There are other means of power, why can't we use them?
