I remember reading as a youth the media's dismissal of Lennon as and oddball because of his appeal for personal freedom and peace. The focus was on his method e.g. posing nude with Yoko on an album cover, and singing about peace from his bed.
We are all expected to sing (and masturbate) from the same script. It's all about society being controlled. The forces against self - gratification are not only hypocritical but increasingly ideological too.
