Dreams, Freud says, are "via regia" to a knowledge of unconscious. To a poet, these provide an array of associations involving an endless sorting and recombining of knowledge, observations and speculations which a poet can use in linking with things he has seen, noticed or felt. A beautiful poem, indeed.
