"The Harmattan" is a cold, dry & very dusty north-east wind which blows from the Sahara Desert toward the Equator (velocity 16-25 km/hr) beginning in November and lasting until March in some areas. A perfect metaphor for the intent of this poem.

~Harmattan~

MIghty winds do howl

Entombed memories unearthed

Fiercely blinding dust

Dirt Devils of Time

Vortices of Past Lives spin

Banished Harmony

Riding out the storm

Marshaled Graces battened down

Raging Emotion

Labors Supernal

Altered Vision resculpts Mind

Sand dunes born anew

Something exciting about a wind blowing through your body, it is a cleansing of sorts and revitalizes you. I go to the beach in the winter for a wind bath, it's exhilarating!

Peace, love and light,
Amber

Carolyn,
This speaks to one who lived in deserts for ten years, Saudi and Kuwait - the early year duststorm - we called it the shamal - sent fine powder everywhere, past the window jambs, under the doors, into the eyes, ears, nose and worst of all between the teeth, i can still feel that grit...i should've worn wise native headdress..sorry, i'm rambling but you set me off.
luv 'Vortices of Past Lives spin'...whirling dervishes...and the final line is so right, the dunes had new shape and new character after each event.
