This is a poem that I hope will give some encouragemnet to people who had negative experiences as a child.

As a child you may have heard

You can't draw or sing

You are stupid, why did you

do that?You can't do anything

right, and other things

You began to believe them

Then the people stop saying

the hurtful words, but  you start saying

them to yourself, and what is worse

you start to believe it ,and it went

deeper and deeper until it seemed

to become apart of you, Then one day

you have someone who looks at you

Not the you that you see, but the real you

This person saw the gifts that you didn't

even know you had, you say to yourself

Is this true ?Are there things I can do?

So you try , a little at a time

You begin to use one gift and find out

you actually like it , and other people

begin to see what you can acheive

Then you try a another gift

This time there are challenges and

so many barriers, yet you remember the

friend who encouaged you, and Wow!

it works! It really works! You have created

something and it came from the deepest

part of you. You seem pleased and sure

enough gradully others see what you have

created and admire your creativity.

You begin to see other gifts and

even develop your spirituaity.

You are becoming whole

You are not letting the people who

said those things to you as a child

control or run your life ANYMORE!

You have even realized the problems

they had and have forgiven them

Yes, forgiven them

Think back- what was it that started

you on such a positive path- Oh yes,

the person who first believed in you

Please pass it on.

Pass it on.

Many don't realize the damage done by words spoken in anger and frustration ... and the cycle continues, generational curses passed on until it's broken. Like mine was, in Cleansing Stream ... powerfully penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Low self esteem comes from being criticized, even by our parents. I was so criticized by mine, always had to do good in school and be a better peson than I wanted to be. AM thankful my parents were strict though, cause I turned out to be a better person. Now have my self esteem which I needed to develop gradually. It is hard to find it sometimes, but when you get it you don't let it go.

Everybody can relate to this poem because all of us have experienced someone whether its a friend or a family member or even a complete stranger that tells us something bad about ourselves and then we believed it and let us control our lives. Then someone uplifts you and tell you that you can do anything that you want and that you're special. Those people who give you good advice and encourage you to be the best that you can be are the ones that people should always listen to.In my book,I dedicated it to a friend of mine. He's been my barber for 15 years. One day I showed him my poem and he was so amazed by how I write that he gave me poems that he wrote 20 years ago and asked me to redo them.He didn't tell me that I should publish a poetry book, but due to him having confidence and support in me in terms of doing his poetry,I decided to enter the publishing world and self published my book

When he saw that I dedicate the book to him,he was flabbergasted. Its good to have people in your life that will give you positive words and compliments where the support system is truly there.take care

I try to do this when I see someone struggling, but recently I had a young girl, who wanted to grow up or as she said I want to get maturity. I did what I could, gave her some responsible jobs to do. Cat sit for me, while I was gone. I paid her $10.00 and left enough food for two. Unfortunately after a while of hanging out in her own pad, and doing responsible things, something happened, her stories did not add up, I gave her every chance to come clean. But she just couldn't do it. I did not fire her, she quit with another childish quip. I guess it was jusst not her time. There are so many other times it works and that makes me happy and proud.

Cindy:

This is so inspiring!!! I thank you for sharing this gem of a poem.
When I was a little girl, I was name the most "unclever" amongst my siblings back in Hong Kong; but when I came to Canada, my teacher praised me so much of my computer work, and my school friends often asked me for advice. It was during this time I had "discover" my own talents Thanks to the teacher in Canada!!!

But at home all my siblings were really very smart though. They never had to study hard to pass the exams., but for some reasons I couldn't retain what I had learned. I guess it has to do with a person's maturity level, and I was one with "delayed" maturity.

But I agreed, to label a child as "most unclever" hurts. It didn't hurt when you were a little girl, but as the little girl grew, she really believed that she was the most stupid of the whole bunch.

Thank you so much for sharing this gem of a poem!!! I think there are many who are in the same boat as I can benefit from your words of wisdom!!!
