My Virtual Life with Gene
We write poetry, not for one another, and not to --
he, to the gulls, the sky, the rain
I, to the rocks, the sky, the snow
he, on the coast; I, in the mountains
he with a scotch and good cigar
me with a beer and cheap cigarette
words well in us like waves, like drifts,
we ride them like tides, like avalanches
we are nothing to one another
but have sworn friendship forever
sharing the sky alone, its suns, its dusts,
its ineffable infinitudes.

poem, as you know. Your writing of course is often powerful, always
beautifully penned, always a joy to read, and also highly recommended.
