I hated shopping when young, and now hate shopping not being young.
ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OFF
Ironic, isn't it? -- no, wrong word --
something more encompassing, tragic? no, -- pathetic?
Histrionic. Blackly humorous, hold the humor?
No, that implies white. It's not that simple.
Just sad, maybe? What a wimp of word:
basket diagnosis.
What kind of dressing room is this,
in which nothing fits? I mean, shop.
Maybe an oversided adverb,
just short of plus? Must drag the floor: Unbelievably, strangely, unexpectedly?
but those are so expensive, and poorly
made. Anyway, I'm not talking motion here.
Leave everything on the floor, I decide.
Don't hang and replace.
Give the chirpy over-lipsticked chicks
something to do.
So -- what? An expletive? Damn! F***! Or something
less angry ---- say, --- Huh? Huh goes with everything.
But it's so small in certain places.
Maybe a conjunction, something like And then, or But or Due to, but those
are so unreliable, like bikini underwear,
barely there and so costly, like tiny
scoops in upscale eateries.
So it's back to ironic? – dry or wry?
But that's like wisecracks,
and this is all serious foolery.
I think a dangling participle
might suffice, or an egregious
gerundive error, disagreement in
tense, or something perversely
sinful: a run-on sentence, or two.
How can I get to the meat of this
when nothing fits?
Mannequins aren't supposed
to have such trouble,
and my limbs are just as plastic
and innards just as vital as theirs.
I'm all bones now, finally, just like
those nipple-less nude perfections.
Frustrated and back in my own rags
I prepare to leave, glacing darkly
into the three way mirror,
that veracious, hideous tripolith.
I'm gone. In my place, I see
your face, your face, your face.
we travel in circles even as we dare dress what we are as what we were opposed to be ...

Great poem Julie. Have you left on your trip yet? If not, have a wonderful time. I like the thought processes here...the mind constantly spinning and musing and reasoning. It's the brain come alive and jumping onto paper. Well done!
OH!...THIS IS JUST FANTASTIC! I LOVED IT...SO WELL WRITTEN WITH THOSE STRONG PHRASES DRAWING SUCH A VIVIDLY CLEAR PICTURE THAT ONE LAUGHS AT...INSTEAD OF CRYING. THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS. JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS.
