A coming-of-age poem for mothers and daughters

She rides a see-saw tonight...

stuck in sky's middle without landing-wings.

At dawn, dormant dolls will dress at day-break,

awaiting breakfast of kissed honey dew melon,

and of course, an ear of corn for Piglet.

Every night she sees an indentured sky,

with half-a-moon...

For now she shares pecan pralines with

Raggedy Ann, Amosandra, and Teddy Bear.

She has two style of clothes in her closet...

and doesn't realize that those doors will open and shut many times throughout life...

for she must weigh and measure each though before she speaks "truth words."

"Raise your cloudy milk-glass little one.

Drink in as much childhood as you can tonight,"

said Peter Pan, for tomorrow you'll be thirteen!"

You'll tarry no more in the Land-of-Tantrums,

dressing baby dolls,

sipping dandelion tea with Pooh-Bear,

while munching on

milkweed pods, wild mushrooms, and

honey by the sea.
